This is the annual ADA update provided to you by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Think Beyond the Label & the State of Colorado. This will include navigating ADA in today's world. Be prepared for role play, panel discussions and high level of interaction.

Filddlers Green Circle, Greenwood Village, CO 80111 Address: DeVry University / Tuscany Plaza Room: 118 Directions I-25 to Arapahoe, Exit Arapahoe, Go west on Arapahoe, Right on Greenwood Plaza Blvd, Right on E. Caley/Fiddlers Green Circle, go through the stop light heading east (do NOT take a left into the Tuscany Plaza drive way at the light). After the stoplight about 100 yards, take a left U-turn at the first median and then turn right immediately into the parking garage driveway east of the structure. Parking is on the top level of the parking garage next to the building. Please do NOT park in the ground floor area marked Visitors Parking—this has a two hour limit. Instead, go to the EAST side of the garage (closest to I-25), enter the code 1111# to open the gate. Please park on the top level. Cathy Kohl is a Business Outreach Specialist for the Department of Human Services, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. She has worked with Colorado DVR for 17 years. She has many connections through the disability community in Denver, which is an invaluable resource for the clients and businesses that she partners with.

Steve Allen is a Business Outreach Specialist for the Department of Human Services, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Steve's unique background allows him to speak to the needs of many industries after working or owning businesses in Banking, Agriculture, Art, Real Estate, Construction/Development, and Manufacturing. He is constantly connecting with the community and employers to increase awareness of and work on dismantling barriers to employment for individuals with disabilities.

Jill Beaudry has been a placement counselor and trainer/disabilities advocate for the past 20 years. Jill has provided interactive and entertaining trainings throughout Colorado and nationally, as well. Her ability to effectively incorporate humor and improvisational techniques in her presentations makes her an added addition to any program. Jill is currently a consultant with Redwood Consulting.

Karen Ferrington is the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) program manager for the Medicaid Infrastructure Grant. She has worked in DVR for 17 years as a division trainer, a field office supervisor and a vocational rehabilitation counselor. Karen has a special interest in the area of self-employment for persons with disabilities and has presented regionally and nationally on the topic. Karen is an adjunct professor providing on-line courses for graduate students studying rehabilitation at Thomas University in Georgia. She earned her M.S. degree in Rehabilitation Services from Florida State University and is a certified rehabilitation counselor under the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC).

Patricia McMahon,
Program Manager-Outreach & Technical Assistance - United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission- Denver Field Office. Ms. Patricia McMahon serves as the Program Manager-Outreach & Technical Assistance for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)-Denver Field Office. As the Program Manager, Ms. McMahon provides training to community groups, unions, businesses, and educational facilities; speaks at seminars and educational programs; writes articles about anti-discrimination in employment for publication; provides informational materials; and answer most questions concerning charge process handling procedures in the Denver Field Office. She coordinates the Denver Office’s annual Technical Assistance Program Seminar (TAPS); serves as the Office’s small business ombudsman; and the media contact person. Ms. McMahon began her career with EEOC in 1989 as an investigator, shortly after she graduated Metropolitan State College of Denver with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology. She was recruited by EEOC under the Outstanding Scholars Program. Ms. McMahon served as an investigator until 1999, when she was detailed to the position of Acting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Coordinator. As the ADR Coordinator, Ms. McMahon established an operational mediation program for the Denver Office. She remained as the ADR Coordinator until becoming the Program Manager for Outreach and Technical Assistance. In her spare time, Ms. McMahon enjoys writing and, to date, has authored two books of fiction. -
Sheridan Walker is the President of HirePotential. She is the founder and director of this leading national consulting and staffing firm which delivers end-to-end services to corporations and government, helping them recruit, hire and retain the untapped workforce which we define as people with disabilities, veterans, mature and other niche areas. An expert in the disability field with 24 years of broad-based experience, she brings her considerable expertise to HirePotential. She has presented nationally on several types of Disability issues as it relates to employment, accommodations and hiring. Prior to founding HirePotential, Ms. Walker was a corporate program manager of the REACH disability and diversity national recruiting solution for an IT Staffing and Management Company, Alternative Resources Corporation (A.R.C), where she was responsible for creating and implementing the company’s REACH Program which generated over $7 million in revenue and $150,000 in tax credits the first year. She is certified with the American Board of Disability Analysis and has severed on many local, state and national boards.

Lindsey Pacheco- Colorado DVR Supervisor. Lindsey Pacheco has worked with Colorado DVR for the past 14 years. Lindsey's experience spans the disability gamut to include but not limited to blindness, deafness, and mental health impediments. Lindsey's work travels provide insight to the unique needs of rural, small and large/urban communities. Lindsey continues to develop job opportunities in support of the counselors he supervises. Mr. Pacheco's ultimate mission is to assist people with disabilities in their goals to enter or re-enter the workforce, or maintain their current employment.

Jim Pilkington - Colorado DVR, Assistive Technology Specialist. Jim has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. He has experience as a software developer, Software Test Engineer, and Technical Instructor. Jim's career began with a medical office software company, then continued with work for the Boeing Aircraft Company and StorageTek Corporation here in Colorado. Currently, he is the assistive Technology Specialist with Colorado DVR. Jim teaches the use of assistive and adaptive technology to persons with visual and other types of disabilities, and advises businesses on the use of these technologies to employ and retain these individuals.
